CONTACT IMPROV SERIES | AUG 2025
Facilitated by Vincent Hardy | Dallas, TX
This AUG, join me for a special series of Contact Improvisation at the intersection of movement, presence, and connection. Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned mover, this lab offers a supportive space to explore the foundational tools of CI—trust, weight sharing, breath, and intuitive partnering.
Each session offers a structured arc: guided technique followed by an open jam to practice, integrate, and explore the art of moving together.

| WHAT TO EXPECT |
Each Class introduces new tools: center connection, shared momentum, soft landing, dynamic weight exchange, and more.
No prior dance experience needed—just willingness to engage, sense, and move.
Space is co-created with clarity, safety, and respect for every body.
| COMMUNITY AGREEMENTS |
1.Honor consent at all times
2. Listen Through the Body
Let movement be a conversation. Prioritize sensing, pausing, and responding over performing or controlling.
3. Keep Yourself and Others Safe
Stay aware of your own limits and of those around you. Move responsibly, especially when working with weight, momentum, or inversions.
4. No Assumptions or Expectations
Every dance is different. Let go of the need for outcome, shape, or story. Be open to what emerges.
5. Stay Attuned to the Room
We are always dancing with the whole space. Feel the energy around you and practice moving in harmony with the group field.
The jam space is primarily nonverbal. Save conversations for before or after the movement experience to preserve embodied presence.
6. Give, Don’t Take
Approach each connection with generosity. Ask: What can I offer this moment? rather than What can I get from it?
7. Practice Self-Responsibility
You are in charge of your boundaries, your energy, and your body. Pause, rest, or step out of the dance at any time.
8.This is not a space to pursue sexual energy. We practice touch as a human language, not performance.
| WHAT TO WEAR |
Movement-friendly clothes (no metal, snaps, or sharp edges)
Pants preferred. No jewelry.
| WHAT IS CONTACT IMPROV? | Contact Improvisation (CI) is a dance form developed in 1972 by Steve Paxton, exploring the physics of touch, gravity, and movement between two or more people. It invites trust, adaptability, and deep listening in motion.
We honor Steve Paxton and the modern CI lineage while also acknowledging ancestral, social, and somatic traditions of contact-based dance found in cultures across the globe.
|RISK AWARENESS | CI can involve falling, rolling, unexpected weight shifts, and shared lifts. Practice awareness of self and others. Injuries are rare but possible. We aim for mindful exploration, not intensity.
