Data and numbers are often seen as objective facts. So why can we draw opposite conclusions from the same dataset? How can somebody manipulate graphs and charts to exaggerate and stretch the truth? When are averages and percentages unreliable measures? Finding the truth in a sea of statistics is hard enough. It's even more difficult when somebody is trying to mislead you. This Science Cafe will provide insight in some of the common ways that people lie with statistics
Andrew Udell received his BA in Economics from UGA in 2017. Since then he has worked as a data analyst in diverse fields, including logistics, quality assurance, and business operations. He currently works with a medical tech company to help recall defective devices from the market. Andrew is a hobby scientist, having co-authored a paper on using machine learning to process botanical images with his wife and UNG's own Rachel Perez-Udell. For the last two half years, he has been working full time while pursuing a Masters of Science in Analytics from Georgia Tech. He is expected to graduate this December.
