Artist Spotlight: An Interview with Lisa Sheirer

In each conversation, a local artist will share the story behind their work—their motivations, their artistic journey, and what it means to create within and for the community. These interviews offer a closer look at the people whose visions shape our local culture and provide a platform for authentic connection between artist and audience.

Join us for a live Artist Spotlight interview with Lisa Sheirer, a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Frederick, Maryland. With over 45 years of experience, Lisa’s work spans a wide array of mediums—from clay, pulp painting, and cast metal to digital photography and vector-based imagery. A resident artist at both the Y Art Center and Foxhaven Farm, Lisa finds deep inspiration in the natural world surrounding the Catoctin Mountains. In this interview, she’ll share how her hikes through local forests ignite the creative process, how scientific curiosity shapes her artistic expression, and why she views her work as a form of plant-based theology.
