About Steve List
Steve is a horticulturist, landscaper, and educator; LAUSD Farm to Classroom Advisor, Urban Garden Lecturer, and Rock n Roll enthusiast. He has taught agriculture and has been nurturing and inspiring high school horticulturists in urban agriculture, nutrition, and edible landscaping throughout LAUSD and his home base Sylmar Charter High School (SCHS) for over 25 yearsāall the while instilling the inherent value of these fields, inspiring community conversations around gardening and empowering those overlooked and ignored.
Since reclaiming a 2-acre abandoned W**d and junk-filled lot at SCHS seven years ago and transforming it into a thriving Agricultural Oasis, he and hundreds of his students have launched a āgreen revolution of flowers, fruits and vegetablesā across the northeast San Fernando Valley and now extends to many other parts of Los Angeles and Southern California.
With the help of his network of students, he has designed, built, and given away over 500 raised-bed gardens for families without easy access to fresh fruits and vegetables. In addition, he and his green revolutionaries have secured homes for an estimated 100,000 trees, plants, and seedlings at local schools, nonprofits, community groups, and low-income residents ensuring that thousands of Angelenos benefit from healthy, fresh produce.
