Join Dane County Parks and Luke Saunders of Blue Heron Stewardship for a FISTA-approved course providing certification through the Safety and Woods Working (SAWW) training program.
*** Prerequisite: Completion of Level 2 Training ***
Participants in Level 3 SAWW training will refine and build upon chainsaw proficiency skills learned in Levels 1 & 2.
*** Meeting Location: This class will meet at the Indian Lake Shelter, located at: 8183 WI-19, Cross Plains, WI 53528 ***
-- The classroom portion will be held in an open-air shelter in close proximity to a bathroom and water fountain.
-- The field portion will be held further in the park. It may be necessary to drive/carpool to the cutting location.
Participants in Level 3 training will spend most of the day in the field practicing techniques to operate chainsaws safely, comfortably and productively. Hands-on training gives participants the opportunity to fell and limb or buck at least one tree.
Topics covered include:
-- Review of information from Levels 1 & 2
-- Focus on planning and executing difficult tree felling
-- Introduction to Segments & Lift
-- Precision at the stump
-- Advanced limbing and bucking
-- Techniques to manage difficult scenarios
Level 3 participants should be fully equipped and prepared to work with and maintain their own chainsaw. Participants must be prepared to work and bring their own personal protective equipment, chainsaw(s) and tools for maintenance.
