This session will explain and help you understand the changes between the previous and new residential energy code in Rhode Island, the 2024 IECC.
See how the changes will impact construction details, material selection, and building practices. We will address available compliance pathways and required mechanical ventilation.
We’ll review proven methods that enable builders and designers to build cost-effective, healthy, high-performance homes.
We will introduce funding opportunities and program incentives that are available to offset costs whether you’re just meeting the code or reaching beyond the code with programs like Zero Energy Homes and Zero Energy Ready Homes - simple upgrades to any project.

Learn about high performance building from South County Habitat for Humanity. This local chapter recently put the finishing touches on a seven-lot subdivision, Cardinal Lane, in Hopkinton, RI and certified all seven houses to the Department of Energy’s rigorous Zero Energy Ready Home standard. With the addition of solar panels, these affordable homes will be truly net zero.
Habitat’s project manager Dan Warner will give insight into this affiliate’s commitment to building better buildings and will share their work analyzing the material cost implications of building these above code homes. This is a game changer of a project on the RI construction scene that we all hope will help inspire everyone in the building industry to embrace high performance building as an achievable standard.

Jon Erickson is a Project Manager at CLEAResult. He provides energy and envelope consultation as well as verification services for builders throughout the state. In addition, through the RI Energy Codes Program, he delivers training on many topics related to energy efficiency, building science and zero energy construction.
Dan Warner is the Director of Construction for South County Habitat for Humanity. He has 20 years of residential construction experience, a BS in Construction Management, is a LEED Green Associate, and sits on the Rhode Island Builders Association Board of Directors.
Steve DeMetrick is the owner of DeMetrick Housewrights. Steve is an expert in building Zero Energy Ready Homes. He is also a Certified Passive House Builder and built the first PHIUS Certified Passive House in the state.
