About the event

The Forager's Ramble
Join us on the Forager's Ramble through open countryside, along hedgerows and through woodland, and explore the incredible abundance of wild edibles in Autumn in Northumberland.

The trail will take us from Cramlington along to Seaton Deleval, passing three of the 'Cramlington Art Trail' sculptures. The walk will last around 3-4 hours, and we will be covering about 4 miles in total over the course of the walk. Once we reach Seaton Deleval, we will be stopping for a picnic lunch, where I will share a few homemade, wild treats too! After we are fully rested, we will be turning around to come back along the way we came, going at a gentle walk with enough time to gather blackberries and other fruits of the season as we go.

- What to Expect -
🌱You will learn how to correctly identify wild edibles, which can include flowers, fruits, foliage and fungi.
🌱How to forage safely and within the law.
🌱How to act sustainably when out and about.
🌱How to use wild food in the kitchen, including tips on how to prepare, store and preserve them and make the most of your harvest.
🌱We'll also look at the medicinal and nutritional benefits of the wild edibles we come across.
🌱You'll return home with a delicious bounty of blackberries.
🌱 After the event, you'll recieve a free pdf copy of 'Foraging For Blackberries' a short guide to foraging for Blackberries, their uses and medicinal benefits and a few folktales as well. This guide also includes a few of all of my favourite blackberry recipes as well.
🌱I'll be bringing along a few wild snacks to share with the group, made using seasonal ingredients.

- What to Bring -
Please dress for the unpredicatable British weather, and wear whatever footwear you feel comfortable in.
Feel free to bring a notepad and pen if you want to take notes along the way.
A container to carry your Blackberries and other wild edibles - a plastic tupperware box is great for this, or a basket. I will bring along a few spares just incase.
A pack lunch to eat at our stopping point.
A sit mat if you have one incase the ground is wet when we stop for lunch. I can provide one if you don't already have one.

- Accessibility -
This route is mostly over level ground, over grass and dirt tracks. There is car parking available at the meeting location, but no designated blue badge parking. There are no toilet facilities available along the walk. If you have any accesibilty requirements I ask that you can please get in touch before booking just to make sure that this route is right for you.
