Sam's Point Area of Minnewaska State Park Preserve
400 Sams Point Road, Cragsmoor, United States
When someone mentions a green building to you, they probably aren’t referring to the color – But what are they talking about really? Join Madison Cannella, the Sam’s Point Education and Stewardship Assistant through the SCA/AmeriCorps and trained Architectural Designer, to discover what it means for a building to be “green” and to learn architectural representation through a series of guided drawing exercises. Using the two visitor centers found within Minnewaska State Park Preserve, one at Lake Minnewaska and the other at Sam’s Point, as case studies for participants to learn about passive/sustainable design principals and how to identify potential green washing in building practices. Following this presentation will be a roughly half mile hike along a portion of Loop Road where participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice drawing ‘architecturally’ as we stop for vignette style building surveys of historic buildings found right here at Sam’s Point. Participants are encouraged to bring sketchbooks and pen/pencils, but modified supplies will be available for participants to borrow. Meet at the Sam’s Point Visitor Center.
