Harvey Valdes Plays J.S. Bach and Erik Satie

Summer Music at the Cragsmoor Stone Church Kicks Off With Guitar Innovator Harvey Valdes on Saturday, June 28 at 7PM.

Acclaimed guitarist will present a fascinating program of works by composers Erik Satie- on pedal steel guitar- and J.S. Bach- on electric guitar.

Returning for another season after two years of successful concerts in the breathtaking and historic Stone Church in Cragsmoor, NY, The Hilltop Experience will present Harvey Valdes in a solo concert on Saturday June 28. Valdes, an NYC-based guitarist and composer, is renowned both for a breathtaking technical facility and for a unique and style-spanning musical voice which has seen Valdes work in a range of settings- from award-winning Broadway musicals like The Band’s Visit to film scores (2011’s The Utopian) to a series of recordings documenting his pioneering interpretations of classical works.

It is this last theme that Valdes will present in concert at the Stone Church, as he explores works from two of his recent albums- Novare, an adventurous presentation of J.S. Bach’s lute works for electric guitar, and Ogives/Slogives, a similarly progressive approach to the works of French composer Erik Satie played on the pedal steel guitar. The Bach pieces on Novare (which were called “spiritual” by Echoes and Dust Magazine), take on a haunting, searching quality in Valdes’ electrified hands, and the more meditative Satie pieces on Ogives/Slogives likewise take on an almost trance-inducing quality when played by Valdes on the pedal steel guitar. The chance to hear both of these collections of pieces in the sonorous and cathedral-esque acoustics of the Cragsmoor Stone Church is an opportunity that should not be missed.
