Cowiche Canyon Conservancy is offering a number of family-friendly ways to learn about the fall season and our ecosystem. This year we're offering fun tools! Borrow some binoculars or magnifying loupes, or gain experience with an amazing app (iNaturalist!).
Choose from the below themed walks:
Bird Walk with Glenn Nelson (Cowiche Canyon Conservancy)
Join us to listen and look for fall bird life at Snow Mountain Ranch. We’ll look low and high for migratory and resident birds, from smaller sparrows to larger birds of prey. We’ll have binoculars available to borrow for the day!
Difficulty: About 2 miles, mostly flat ground along the Riparian Loop
Magnification Walk with Cy Philbrick (Cowiche Canyon Conservancy)
Join us for a closer look! We’ll use loupes (aka magnifying glasses) of different powers to magnify our eyes and look up close at leaves, bark, lichen, feathers and whatever other fun things we may find on trail. We’ll have loupes and other magnifying devices available to borrow.
Difficulty: About 2 miles, mostly flat ground along the Riparian Loop
iNaturalist Walk with Caleb Lankford (Washington Department of Ecology)
Want to learn how to use iNaturalist? Help document the native flora and fauna of the shrub-steppe by using iNaturalist, a citizen science platform that crowdsources identifications from local experts. Along the way, hear from Caleb about how volunteers with the Washington Bee Atlas are using the app to help gather floral host data for native bee populations in Washington. (Please download the iNaturalist app on your mobile device before attending.)
Difficulty: About 2.5 miles, about 350 feet elevation gain
