** You DON'T need a ticket to attend or read. **
Recommended arrival time: 7.30PM or a bit earlier. Gig starts 8PM.
Fire & Dust is a monthly poetry open mic event. All welcome - page poets, performance poets, slammers, rappers, spoken word artists, and anyone happy to listen to some poetry. Bring poems, bring friends, or just bring yourself along for a listen!
Open mic slots available. For a guaranteed slot: register for a ticket. Alternatively, request to sign up on the night. Slots are limited to 3 minutes (a few extended slots may be available on request.)
OPEN MIC SYSTEM: A few open mic tickets are available to reserve on Eventbrite; the other slots are for sign-up on the night. Priority given to poets who didn't get to read last month. If you read last month and want to read again, your name will go into the tub for random draw to fill empty slots. Most poets WILL get to read, but sometimes the list is just too busy to fit everyone in!

HEADLINE POET: JAMIE THRASIVOULOU
Jamie Thrasivoulou is an award-winning writer, poet, and educator. He’s also the lyricist in the band Kez. In 2019 he won the Saboteur award for Best Spoken Word Performer in the UK, in 2018 he won the Culture Matters Bread & Roses award for Best Spoken Word and Musical Collaboration. His work has been published and broadcast widely, including appearances on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, and BBC Radio 4. He is the official poet of Derby County Football Club and his poem We Are Derby is played before every home game at Pride Park stadium.
Grounded in working class experience, his poems are packed full of witty and often satirical social observation; he has two fingers aimed firmly towards authority and the class system. Jamie’s third full-length collection FERAL was published in February 2025 through Verve Poetry Press. His previous collection OUR MAN was published through Burning Eye Books in 2019, and his debut The Best of a Bad Situation was published through Silhouette Press in 2017. Jamie facilitates writing workshops in schools, colleges, PRUs and prisons and is also an associate lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Derby.
