Event Description
Join us for the Midwest Corn Alps XC Competition—a flatland, tow-launched paragliding and hang gliding cross-country event designed for pilots of all skill levels! Experience world-class flatland flying, advanced tow winches, and festive evenings, all while competing and connecting with fellow pilots.
Who Can Compete?
✅ Pilots with a rating of P2 or H2+
✅ USHPA membership required
✅ Must provide your own tow bridal (available for purchase at $60)
👀 Spectators of all ages welcome!
Schedule
🔹 Practice Days: July 14-15 (optional)
🔹 Competition Begins: Wednesday, July 16 @ 10 AM
🔹 Competition Ends: Saturday, July 19
🔹 Backup/Fun Fly Day: Sunday, July 20 (if needed)
Location & Logistics
📍 Rotating Location: This year in Cosmos, MN (near Chicago, IL in future years)
🚗 Tow Roads: Less than 2 miles from HQ—carpooling encouraged
✈️ Nearest Airport: MSP (Minneapolis-St. Paul, 80 miles east)
🏨 Lodging: Hotels available in Hutchinson, MN & Willmar, MN (~20 miles away)
🏕 Camping: Primitive camping at HQ (portable toilet & outdoor shower provided)
🍽 Meals: Saturday night dinner included; other meals are on your own
Competition Details
🏆 Scoring: XCContest software
🛫 Tasks: Race to goal, out & back, or triangle—set daily based on wind
🚗 Retrievals: Provided along course line & goal; pilots outside task area must arrange their own return
🔹 Check-in: 10 AM
🔹 Check-out: 8 PM
Registration & Fees
💰 Cost: $400 for full competition / $100 per day
💰 Tows After Launch Close: $20/tow paid to tow tech
✅ Includes: Free tows during launch hours, course retrievals, event T-shirt, awards dinner
