On Friday Oct 3 at 7:30pm, Poetics Corvallis presents a poetry open mic featuring Rosa Lane, an award-winning poet who started life in a fishing village on the coast of Maine and is now a professional architect in the San Francisco Bay Area. Called Back, her most recent poetry collection, resulted from 5 years of study of the poems and letters of Emily Dickinson, whose archive reveals that many of her writings were altered after her death to obscure her romantic love for Susan, her lifelong friend who became her brother’s wife. This made Lane “more and more aware of the person underlying the icon—her immense and troubled passion, a homoerotic passion that had been silenced, denied, ignored, and hushed, an unrequited passion that Dickinson transmuted from pain into a strange beauty.”
We will start with Rosa's poetry at 7:30pm, with poetry Open Mic to follow. Open Mic signup starts at 7:15pm. Come share poems or poetic prose that you like, by you or by another, on any topic, at our friendly free open mic in the artsy ambience of the Interzone Cafe. Or come to just listen, and let poetry dissolve, at least for a moment, the walls between us all.

Lane is the author of four poetry collections: Called Back (2024), winner of the Maine Literary Award; Chouteau's Chalk (2019), winner of the Georgia Poetry Prize; Tiller North (2016), winner of the 2017 National Indie Excellence Award [NIEA]; and Roots and Reckonings, a chapbook. Her poems have appeared in such places as the Asheville Poetry Review, Cloudbank, Five Points, Nimrod, Massachusetts Review, Ploughshares, Reed Magazine, RHINO, Third Coast, etc.
