Let’s Talk Sharks - Jaws Edition

Did you know that this year marked the 50th anniversary of Jaws, the blockbuster story that forever changed how the world sees sharks. While Jaws sparked a global fear of these incredible animals, it also inspired many to learn more, and even dedicate their lives to protecting them.

Join us on Friday, July 25, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for a special Let’s Talk Sharks - Jaws Edition presentation with Dr. Kelsey Banks from the Harte Research Institute at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Dr. Banks will dive into the misconceptions Jaws created, share how the film inspired her own journey to becoming a marine biologist, and explore how we can shift the narrative from fear to respect through conservation and education.

At the Texas State Aquarium, we believe sharks deserve protection, not fear. As apex predators, they play a vital role in keeping our ocean ecosystems healthy and balanced.
