AIA CORPUS CHRISTI 2025 CODE ACADEMY

Please join us for the 2025 Annual AIACC Code Academy. Once again our presentation is being led by ICC - The International Code Council. This year's presentation from the 2021 International Building Code (IBC) will focus on "Building Classification" and will provide participants with a better understanding regarding the proper classification of buildings.

There will also be a lunch presentation by Prosoco, along with breaks throughout the day that will provide you the time to meet each of the 2025 Code Academy Sponsors and check out their products. There will also be "Door Prizes" throughout the day donated by our 2025 Booth Sponsors.

You will earn a total of 7 LU/HSW credits for the day.

We will start early with check-in and breakfast available at 8:15am. The first session from ICC presenter, Doug Thornburg at 9AM. Lunch will be provided along with snacks during the afternoon and plenty of hot coffee throughout the day.

This year the Annual AIA Corpus Christi Code Academy, bringing in a large number of architect members of the AIACC chapter, as well as other built environment profes­sionals through the region, provides 7 hours of continuing education credits necessary for architects to maintain their licensure.

Course Description:

2021 IBC Building Classification

This seminar addresses the key issues of the IBC regarding the proper classification of buildings. The process for correctly evaluating a building for code compliance relies on a systematic approach to the determination of occupancy classification and construction type. Everything starts with the correct building classification! A clear understanding of the classification process as established in IBC Chapters 3, 5 and 6 provides the groundwork for the proper application of many other important code provisions.

Learning Objectives:

• Describe the purpose for regulating a building’s classification based on occupancy and construction type.
• Identify and describe the 26 specific occupancy groups established in the 2021 IBC.
• Apply the process for using occupancy classification, fire protection features, allowable building height and allowable building area to determine the acceptable types of construction.
• Identify the characteristics of the 12 types of construction set forth in the 2021 IBC.
