Cork Concert Orchestra is thrilled to announce its upcoming concert at City Hall Cork on June 7th, 2025. The orchestra will take audiences on a captivating musical journey through some of the most iconic orchestral and opera works featured in cinema. This unmissable evening will showcase the power of film music, with timeless pieces that have become synonymous with unforgettable movie moments.
Under the baton of guest conductor Brian Prendergast, the full orchestra will be joined by internationally acclaimed vocalists Majella Cullagh and Kim Sheehan, who will bring to life some of the most iconic movie moments. Together, they will perform selections from legendary films including The Shawshank Redemption, The Mission, Gladiator, The Hateful Eight, Once Upon a Time in the West, and many more.
We are delighted to have Elmarie Mawe as our compère, guiding the audience through the stories behind the music. This concert promises to bring new layers of emotion to some of cinema’s most memorable musical moments.
Among the highlights will be the unforgettable themes that have graced both the big screen and our hearts, including the famous Shawshank Redemption score record-player scene where the whole prison stops to listen to Mozarts gorgeous S’ul Aria, to Hans Zimmers stirring Battle scene music from Gladiator to the hauntingly beautiful music of The Mission, this concert will remind the audience of the profound connection between film, opera and orchestral music.
