FAQ:
- What is "Blues Dancing"?
The simplest explanation is that it is dancing to blues music. It primarily enjoyed as a partnered social dance, although solo dance, competition and performance formats also exist. We will be focused on the social dance side.
- Do I need experience or need to have attended a prior workshop?
No, this workshop will be designed to be stand-alone and accessible to new students.
- Will this workshop be useful to dancers who attend the workshop in July?
Yes, we will cover new material, explore different content, so the August will expand-on and add to existing knowledge.
- What are the "dance roles"?
These are:
"Lead" (mainly initiate movements and overall direction of the dance),
"Follow" (responds to the lead and typically adds more depth and flourish to the dance),
"Switch" (someone who can switch between leading or following roles as needed)
- Do I need a partner?
Not at all, you can register by yourself, as we rotate partners regularly throughout the classes, so you get an opportunity to dance with lots of other students. Bringing a friend who is happy to do the opposite dance role to you is always welcome of course, as it helps to balance the class.
- What is an instructor led practice?
In a class session, we are focused on teaching dance material, specific movements and concepts, and we move at a pace to suit the overall group. The intention of the practice however is not to teach new material, but to help individual students out with specific questions, to resolve difficulties & confusion, or simply to help you refine or improve what you just learned. In the practice we are more focused in assisting individuals/small groups - maybe you just need to dance with a teacher to understand how a move should feel, or you'd like us to re-explain something which still confuses you, or help figure out something which isn't working.
- What is the Code of Conduct about?
We believe in a safe, inclusive, welcoming and harassment-free environment both in class and at social dances. Good dance communities are built on mutual respect and care for others. The Code of Conduct outlines expectations of behaviour at our events, so that you, and others around you, can have an enjoyable and positive experience.
- I'm interested, how do I sign up?
Registrations are currently open. Just complete the registration form (see link above), and then make payment for your selected ticket type. Cheaper tickets have a cut-off date by which payment needs to be made. If you have difficulty paying by that means for any reason, please make contact with us via our WhatsApp group, on Facebook Messenger, or by email (

- Can I get a refund if I cannot attend?
Sorry, ticket sales are final and non-refundable. This is because we incur up-front costs (insurance, venue hire etc) in the organisation of the workshop. Equally it is to be fair to other attendees, who have registered, paid and want the workshop to happen (avoiding possible cancellation due to insufficient numbers).
Let's get dancing the blues on 23 August! Looking forward to seeing you there!
