“In Mary’s Footsteps” Commemorating MARY STEINHAUSER Warrior for Justice
YOU’RE INVITED!!! To “IN MARY’S FOOTSTEPS” A PANEL PRESENTATION on “Mental Health & Prison Justice in B.C.” on Sat June 28, 1:00-4:00pm at the Coquitlam Library, 1169 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam.

This is a Commemorative Event to honour the 50th Anniversary of the death of the very brave and compassionate social justice advocate, MARY STEINHAUSER on June 11th, 1975.

Our panel of speakers are an esteemed group of community members who will be speaking to the topics of the history and hope of mental health in BC and the issues of prison justice in our province.

Speakers;
DR JOHN HIGENBOTTAM:
Neuropsychologist and former Vice President Riverview Hospital; Clinical Prof in the Dept of Psychiatry UBC, and President of the BC Brain Injury Alliance.

IRENE PETERSON
Registered Clinical Counsellor, Social Worker, and Psychiatric Nurse. Following a career in nursing, Irene returned to university and eventually became a therapist. She established her private practice and has continued practising for the past 40 years. Irene was a good friend and colleague of Mary’s at the BC Penitentiary in 1974 and 1975.

KEN PETERSON:
Former federal Warden who was an Assistant Warden at the BC Penitentiary in 1975. He has been a Warden at Kent Institution and at Mission Medium Security Institution. He is also a member of the Senate at Kwikwexwelph Healing Village in the eastern Fraser Valley.

ANNA TREMERE:
Registered Psychiatric Nurse, primarily in Head Nurse positions throughout her long career. Established the Riverview Hospital Historical Society and founded the Riverview Hospital Museum where she was the curator from 1998-2012. For her considerable body of work in the community and her dedication to documenting the evolution of psychiatric care in BC from 1850 - 1980 with photos for public presentations, Anna
was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award in 2013 and an Award of Merit by the BC Historical Federation 2018.

This is going to be an absolutely fascinating afternoon that you’ll long remember and reflect on. DON’T MISS OUT!
