Project Room: STILLNESS ISN'T QUIET by Lolita Pelegrime (LT)
Main Gallery: THE MOMENT by Joaquin Valdez (PE)
We invite you to join us for the preview of two young emerging artists, when we present The Moment by the US based Peruvian artist Joaquin Valdez in the Main Gallery and Stillness Isn't Quiet by Copenhagen based Lithuanian artist Lolita Pelegrime in the Project Room. Both artists will be present during the preview.
Stillness Isn’t Quiet, is the first solo show at the gallery by Lithuanian-Danish artist Lolita Pelegrime. Lolita Pelegrime’s art centers on the depiction of women, showing the greatness of everyday moments. The exhibition, which consists of entirely new paintings, can be experienced at Bredgade 75 from May 2nd until May 30th 2025.
Lolita Pelegrime’s art strikes the viewer with its dual nature: This is art that is both tactile and sensitive; fragile and strong; matter and soul. Her delicate depictions of women in everyday situations capture something deep and beautiful about what we usually take for granted.
Whether taking a sip of a drink, sleeping, or looking into the distance in a moment of thoughtfulness, Lolita Pelegrime’s subjects are always in the middle of one of those small everyday actions which we often do without even thinking about them. This way of depicting humans in intimate moments is quite contrary to what we are used to seeing in art. Throughout most of history, people were depicted in their metaphorical Sunday best – carefully posed, with as many rich fabrics, pieces of jewellery and other status symbols as possible. Even today, in the age of social media, where we see portraits of humans virtually everywhere, this is how we choose to depict ourselves: showing ourselves from our very best side, posing to emphasize our good traits or hide our bad ones, often casually throwing in items that we want to show to the world.
However, Lolita Pelegrime shows us humans depicted in ways totally untainted by the need to filter and edit their projected image. In the middle of casual gestures, they just exist – they are purely human and truly present in their actions. They remind us that it is often in these small moments that we often consider something in-between, that we are the most likely to connect to our authentic selves, without bias or a mind clouded by selfish desires – that these moments are something to be treasured and cherished as much as any monumental occasion.
