About the event

Eastern Nurseries & Christianshavns Beboerhus presents: Burning Pyre/Canadian Rifles/Markus Sollid
Eastern Nurseries and Christianshavn beboerhus are happy to invite everyone to a evening of ambient, dub and experimental music.

Established in 2019, Eastern Nurseries is a platform for highly emotional contemporary electronic music based between Porto and Newcastle upon Tyne, curated by Rui P. Andrade and Christopher Macarthur Owen. An evolving representation of sound in the modern age, the label seeks to celebrate a breadth of talent from a network of musicians, composers and visual artists that speaks to a shared modus operandi: to create music that bleeds.

Burning pyre:
"Burning Pyre is a producer and composer based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Remaining true to his atmospheric and melancholic ambient roots, Burning Pyre has broadened his web of influences to incorporate elements of dub, downtempo and glitch music into his sonic palette. Pairing organically shifting ambience with skittering percussion, cavernous sub bass and textural pops and clicks, Burning Pyre’s upcoming full-length project, Imago, perfectly encapsulates the gentleness and bittersweet sensibility that has remained a constant throughout his body of work."

Canadian rifles:
Canadian Rifles is the solo moniker of Porto-based experimental musician Rui P. Andrade. At the helm of the Eastern Nurseries imprint, Andrade’s recorded music is characterized by its boundless sensitivity, with his ability to convey delicate emotions via opulent yet subtle sonic processes. Lurching between heavily textured electronics, alluring melodies and an etherlike sense of fatalism, Andrade’s work as Canadian Rifles doesn’t want to be taken in as a canvas, it demands to be physically affective. As the axiom of the label he runs himself implies: it is music that bleeds, no matter the shape or form.

Markus Sollid:
Markus Sollid is an electronic composer and producer who works at the intersection of acoustic and electronic music, creating atmospheric electroacoustic worlds. Earlier this year Sollid joined the label Eastern Nurseries for the two track EP entitled “Spirit Cable Error / Fluctuating Stasis” which effortlessly weaves blissful drones with jittering granular artefacts. Departing from the saxophone-centred approach of 2023’s “Coastline Between Now and Never” (Forlaget Kornmod), Sollid’s sonic palette expands further, setting soaring leads against submerged bass lines and gentler percussive elements - indicating a new horizon and landmark for Sollid’s output.
