DJ Workshop with Gašper Hrovat
Saturday, November 29, 2025, from 2–5 PM at Café Globen
This workshop is for anyone who’s curious about trying DJ’ing, as well as for slightly experienced, more experienced, and very experienced Balboa DJs.
We’ll focus on what it actually means to DJ in our Copenhagen community. You can expect to build your DJ skills and gain a better understanding of how to become an even stronger DJ. For us, DJ’ing is much more than just playing a planned playlist!
We’ll adjust the workshop content based on who joins - so far our program looks like this:
14:00–14:30: Welcome and sharing wishes for the workshop
14:30–16:00: Running a DJ set in practice - genre, artists, tempo
16:00–16:30: Participants play their favourite tracks and we discuss
16:30–17:00: Using mixers and DJ platforms - sound quality, bass,
treble, etc.
Gašper will play Balboa music for us, introduce the genre, share info about important artists, and talk about the energy and mood of the music - both fast and slow Balboa tracks. He’ll give technical tips on how to handle the mixing console and how to improve sound quality, even when working with “old” recordings.
Gašper will inspire us with ideas on how to fill the Balboa dance floor and what to do if dancers leave the floor. He’ll also share what kind of music and tempo works well to start a party, how to shape the middle of your set, and how to end the party or hand over smoothly to another DJ. And you'll his thoughts on your favourite tracks — and insights into the differences between Balboa and Lindy Hop music.
