Ever watch a Hollywood movie supposedly based upon a Bible character or event? How many times have you been seriously disappointed because of the glaring inaccuracies? I have laughed and cried at how bad some “Bible” movies have been.
One of the worst was a 1999 made for TV movie called “Noah’s Ark.” Noah and Lot escape the destruction of Sodom. (Lot actually lived several hundred years after the Flood and Noah was never in Sodom). But one Bible disaster was not enough. Both then escape the Flood Noah in the ark, while Lot becomes a pirate who attacks and boards Noah’s ark. Apparently the real stories were not “dramatic” enough. Fact is not only stranger than fiction, its better because it’s true!
What TV writers did to the story of Noah, fiction writers of all sorts have been doing for 2,000 years to the story of the birth of Jesus. Like barnacles on a great ship, tall tales, myths and out right lies have attached themselves, in the minds of many, to Jesus’ story. Many of these fictions are repeated every December.
We are beginning a series of messages exposing the fictions surrounding the birth of Jesus and laying the facts on the line. We want to learn the real story behind the myths and the lies. In each of our messages we will examine a fiction or fictions about Jesus’ birth and then set forth the truth.
Come and learn the truth and the fictions with us.
