Due to popular demand, the Cloud County Historical Museum will have another showing of the documentary Minersville on August 16th at 2 p.m.
Produced by Salina Media Connection’s Greg Stephens and Tom Fleming and Method Productions, with funding support by the Community Foundations of Cloud and Republic County and Humanities Kansas, the short documentary has been shown to large audiences in Concordia, Belleville, Salina, and Lecompton.
Besides social science instructor Tom Fleming, Dr. Ed Glenn, former Republic County Historical Museum curator, and Kansas Anthropological research avocation archeologist, Debi Aaron, local farmer Conrad Trost is featured in the documentary.
Minersville is a true story about a coal mining ghost town located northeast of Concordia, which played an essential economic role in the region from 1870 through the early 1900s. At one time, Minersville had a population of over 500, with 28 mines providing lignite coal throughout the region.
There is no charge to attend the showing. For more information, contact Florence Girard at the Cloud County Historical Museum, 785-243-2866, or join and follow the documentary on Facebook at www.facebook.com/MinersvilleKS
