About the event

Concord’s Reading of “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?”
The Concord Historical Society is proud to once again partner with the Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire for a public reading of Frederick Douglass’ powerful and enduring speech, “What to the Slave is Your Fourth of July?”

📖 This annual statewide event invites communities to reflect on the meaning of freedom and independence through Douglass’ words, words that still resonate deeply today.

⏰ Our Concord reading takes place Saturday, June 28 at 12:00 PM during Market Days, right on the City Plaza in front of the State House. All are welcome to attend.
