Overview
St Fillans sits at the eastern end of Loch Earn. This walk includes a climb, mainly on tracks through woodland, to a stunning viewpoint overlooking Loch Earn, and a much shorter ascent of Dundurn Hill, a rocky knoll that is the site of a Pictish fort as well as the cell of Saint Fillan. The first viewpoint, next to the St Fillans Hydro-Electric Power Station surge shaft, provides a superb panorama across the loch towards Ben Vorlich and Lochearnhead. Dundurn Hill offers fine views down Strathearn and of the surrounding hills and the village. Walking will mainly be on tracks, tarmacadam roads and pavements. A short section (200 m) of the approach to Dundurn may be boggy after wet weather. Gradients are generally moderate to gentle with occasional short, steep sections. The path up Dundurn Hill is rocky and steep in parts.
