When did you learn you were Free?
Rudy Would Listen is a unique storytelling series inspired by the greatest storyteller I knew—my late Grandpa Rudy. Rooted in the spirit of remembrance and resistance, the show offers what Juneteenth symbolizes: not just freedom delayed, but the joy, complexity, and radical truth of Black life finally being heard.
At a time when the pace of the world often drowns out our voices, this show stands as a refusal to let our stories go untold. We are not just characters in the backdrop of larger events—we are the history. And when our stories are shared, especially those too often erased or misunderstood, we reclaim space, dignity, and power.
This Juneteenth edition especially celebrates the love, brilliance, and transformative strength of Black women. Their stories have carried generations forward, shaped movements, and healed communities. In honoring them, we honor the soul of our freedom.
Each show invites people from our community—performers, creatives, musicians, artists, comedians, sexologists (yes, really), community leaders, advocates, and everyday truth-tellers—to share stories uncensored and unfiltered. These narratives may inspire, disrupt, restore, or reimagine what liberation really means—for ourselves and each other.
