Overview:

This is a four-session introductory course to the basics of brewing beer. Initially we’ll have a brief classroom session where we’ll cover the general history of brewing followed by a review of the basic steps that people have employed for thousands of years. Then, we’ll practice by making a batch and you’ll have the opportunity to roll up your sleeves and do a lab where we’ll focus on each standard brewing step. On the third day, we’ll gather again for a classroom session at the library where each of you will use the computer terminals to research and design a recipe you’d like to make. The final session will be a lab event, and you will learn the final step in brewing: bottling. Once finished you should have the confidence to know what materials and ingredients you’ll need, know where to seek guidance on recipes, and you’ll be able to brew a batch through to testing, completion & bottling. After that you’ll need to learn patience, and you’ll have to practice that on your own.
