History is made up of all types of stories from people in all walks of life. In our textbooks, on television, in movies and even in museums we often learn of success, perseverance and the pioneering spirit that made our lives possible today. But what about the stories we typically do not hear? Are we getting a complete picture of what happened? Are we hearing all the voices? While it is important to share the positive success stories of our forefathers, we must look beyond those stories to see all aspects. Bringing hard history to light is always important, but today it is more important than ever.
In the program, Hard History: The Ku Klux Klan in Central Nebraska, Stuhr Museum’s Curator, Megan Sharp will share her research into how the KKK started in Central Nebraska, how the Klan affected communities in our area and how the KKK eventually declined. There will be a question/discussion time at the end of the program.
