Taming of the Shrew

The 24'-25' Watershed Public Theatre Apprentice Company is proud to present William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew!
One of Shakespeare's most infamous plays, The Taming of the Shrew is a giddy farce which is often misunderstood. When Petruchio, perhaps literature's greatest blowhard, meets the fiery and intelligent Kate, it begs the questions: who is the "shrew" and who is truly being tamed? In a world that conspires against her independence, how can Kate turn the tables on the domineering Petruchio? Shakespeare's legendary wordplay is on full display in this hilarious send-up of life's great fools and the women who "love" them. This showcase represents the year-long training of the Apprentice Company as theatre artists and gives a practical demonstration of lessons learned in Shakespearean acting, text analysis, Viewpoints and storytelling. This production was developed in the devised style, allowing the artists to bring their full creativity to this maximal comedy, and is presented as an abridged 45 minute cut of the original text.
