Everyday is fun in Barbie Land, until Barbie (Margot Robbie) suddenly cannot stop thinking about death and her flawless doll form develops cellulite. Seeking a way to return to her perfect form, Barbie journeys to the real world alongside Ken (Ryan Gosling), where they both learn the joys and perils of human life. Part of the Barbenheimer craze of summer 2023, directed and co-written by Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird, Little Women), Barbie received 8 Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, ultimately winning for Best Original Song, and brought to the cultural zeitgeist conversations around feminism, commercialism, and body image.

This screening will be followed by a panel discussion with MU researchers.
