New Exhibition - "Making a Name for Himself: The Life and Art of F. Edwin Church"

Preservation Long Island’s latest exhibition focuses on the life and work of F. Edwin Church, a celebrated twentieth-century portrait painter with strong ties to Long Island’s North Shore. Despite sharing a name with the famous American landscape painter, Frederic Edwin Church (1876–1975) became a celebrated artist in his own right.

Church's captivating work is rooted in the traditions of Impressionism and Japonisme, yet still reflects modern life early in the last century.

Church chose to spend the latter part of his life on Long Island’s North Shore, which is home to Preservation Long Island. This exhibition reflects our commitment to exploring the intersection of art, culture, and place. By highlighting Church’s work, we hope visitors will gain a renewed appreciation for the North Shore’s extraordinary artistic heritage.
