The magic of Argentine tango and what sets it apart from any other dance is the shared axis. When we form a tango couple we have the opportunity to non-verbally agree to co-create a shared axis and experience that unique feeling of intense cooperation with another person enabling us to speak more deeply about the music together. Once the leader convinces the follower to share her axis past the reach of her own axis then you are dancing in volcada and, with the right training, you can eventually dance any step in this mode. In this workshop Miriam Gita is going to show you how we negotiate this non-verbally and give you the technique necessary to be able to achieve it. The effect is a wonderful feeling of weightlessness for the follower, an intensified connection and the possibility of creating some of those iconic tango silhouettes in the aesthetics of your dance.
The technical skills vital to achieving this will be taught in great detail and you will be given options to make it attainable and satisfying whether you want an ambitious challenge or a simple introduction to the concept. You will also be given exercises for homework designed by Miriam Gita to help you develop the strength, control, flexibility and balance necessary to dance Argentine tango well.

This two-hour workshop is suitable for all with useful simplifications given to beginners as well as advanced challenges on offer for more experienced tangueros. No dance experience or partner necessary. All welcome!
Miriam Gita is passionate tanguera with a rigorous, technical, ergonomic dance education and eight years experience teaching Argentine tango in addition to dancing tango avidly, socially, internationally for eighteen years.
