CERAMIC WORKSHOPS – MONDAY MORNINGS during Term time at COFFS HARBOUR BOTANIC GARDENS
My name is Heather May, and I am a professional Ceramicist who has lived and worked with ceramics, the community and creative people of all abilities for 20+ years in Australia, Canada and UK.
I will be running ongoing Ceramic Workshops on a Monday at the Botanic Gardens Display Room (during Term time - starting 21st July), for a small group of adults with Autism, Intellectual Disabilities and Learning Difficulties, with the intention of nurturing and enhancing social and skill development through the creative expression of participants.
ABOUT ME (QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE):
• Bachelor Degree in Fine Art – Ceramics Major
• Experienced in Ceramic Workshop Disability Support 8yrs across 2 Countries
• 20+ years as a professional Ceramicist exhibiting and selling
• Worked in Community Engagement, Creative and Events teams in Regional Councils
MY FOCUS:
• Building capacity to access community
• Supporting social communication skills and connections through group setting
• Promoting independence and autonomy
• Skills building in concentration/focus, applied craftwork and creative expression
• Encourage and enhance strengths of participants
• Exploring creative freedom for mental health wellness
• Providing meaningful work opportunity through potential engagement in exhibitions and sales
• Keeping workshop participant numbers small (4-6max) to ensure quality facilitation time with each participant
MY PARTICIPANTS:
• Adults (age 18+)
• Autism
• Intellectual Disability
• Learning Difficulties
• Plan-managed NDIS
• Private paying participants
WORKSHOP LOCATION AND TIMES:
• Coffs Harbour Regional Botanic Gardens – Display Room
• Mondays 9:30am – 12pm during Term time (10 weeks per term)
FEES:
• $560 for a 5-week block (2 x 5-week blocks per term available)
• NDIS funding available for participants on NDIS Plans
• Billing can be flexible to separate costs and identify line items
• Includes $100 for materials, morning tea and firing
• Facilitation time includes professional tuition and support, use of all tools and equipment, preparation and cleanup, and glazing
• Apron provided to protect clothing, but suitable attire is recommended
NDIS LINE ITEMS:
I can charge under the following line items, depending on the participant’s NDIS plan.

Experience or knowledge of ceramics is not required. I will work with the individual to build capacity and creative expression.
