As the workshop facilitator, and as a widely-published author of both poetry and prose, Michael Blouin will talk about his writing process and practice. Participants will take time to write a poem, preferably a few poems arising from these prompts.

These newly-crafted poems will be shared with the other people in the workshop group … but … will lead to a casual/non-intimidating open competition.

All these poems, Mike explains “would then be adjudicated by myself with small ‘awards’ being provided to those I consider to be most effective given the parameters (completely subjective, and all are praised for their efforts regardless of outcome).

"The ‘awards’ are not meant to intimidate, just to provide a fun element.

"It's all pretty informal/non-academic.”

About the facilitator:

Michael Blouin has been a finalist for the Amazon First Novel Award, the bpNichol Award, and the CBC Literary Award. He has been the recipient of the Lilian I. Found Award, the Diana Brebner Award, and the Archibald Lampman Award. His novel Chase and Haven won the ReLit Award for Best Novel, an award he received again for his novel Skin House. He is an instructor at the University of Toronto, a guest lecturer for Carleton University, and serves as an adjudicator for both the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. He lives in Kemptville, Ontario.

Mike is a full member of the League of Canadian Poets.
