Rorate Mass for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception

Join us at St Augustine’s on Monday, 8th December, at 7pm for a beautifully atmospheric Rorate Mass as we celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. This candlelit liturgy, offered in honour of Our Lady, takes place before sunrise in many parts of the world, symbolising the coming of Christ, the Light who breaks into our darkness. Although ours will be in the evening, the same sense of quiet expectation and Marian devotion fills the church as we gather on this feast with reverence and hope.

The Rorate Mass takes its name from the opening words of the Introit, “Rorate caeli desuper”—“Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above.” It is a cherished Advent tradition in which the faithful join Mary in awaiting the birth of her Son. Celebrated by candlelight, the gentle glow reflects the humility and purity of Our Lady, inviting us into a moment of stillness in the midst of December’s busyness. All are warmly welcome to come and honour Our Blessed Mother and prepare your hearts for the Lord’s coming.
