Contemporary art and abstract painting are extremely broad areas within an even broader art world. The aim of this workshop is largely exploratory: first to understand the context in which you’re working – your place in the art world, and then to ensure that you have a good understanding of what abstract art is and what makes good abstract art. Then turning our attention to your own work – from creating decorative art that relies on technical skill, an understanding of composition and pictorial elements, and the ability to generate and develop visual ideas, to contemporary art that looks beyond the obvious and into the realm of originality, innovation and art historical relevance.
This workshop will provide you with a myriad of ideas, inspiration and technical know-how that you can apply to your own paintings, boosting their originality and maximising self-expression while preserving good artistic judgement.
