Heritage Open Day - Lancaster Castle

Free guided tours of Lancaster Castle. These will visit some areas of the former prison, the historic courtrooms, the Old Cells, Hadrian's Tower and The Drop Room.

Tours are available on a strictly first-come-first-served basis. Visitors will be given tickets for the next available tour at the time of their arrival - no pre-booking is available for any free tour. Maximum 39 people per guided tour.

Lancaster Castle is one of the most iconic buildings in the north-west. Originally constructed in about 1093 by Roger de Poitou, it is today owned by HM The King in Right of His Duchy of Lancaster. Serving as both a court & prison, it has witnessed some of the most famous and infamous trials in English history, including those of the Lancashire Witches.
