Tracks of Change: The Life and Times of the Lone Star Line

Two railroads greatly impacted the development of Bosque County-- The Texas Central and the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe. Though known to most by its later owner the "Katy," the Texas Central greatly contributed to the growth and prosperity of Bosque communities such as Morgan, Walnut Springs and Iredale. Chartered in 1871, the "Lone Star Line" ran from Waco to Rotan before being acquired by the Katy around 1892 and fully absorbed around 1914.
Bruce Blalock of Smithville, Texas is uniquely qualified to present a fascinating presentation with many rare images of Bosque County and beyond. Blalock is a retired Union Pacific engineer and collector of Katy and Texas Central archives and material. He has been actively involved with the Katy Historical Society and other railroad preservation groups for over 50 years. Bruce and his wife Sallie owned and operated a bed and breakfast, The Katy House, in Smithville for many years.
Bruce will show many previously unpublished photographs of the Texas Central in Bosque County and tell the story of a railroad developed almost exclusively to transport agricultural products grown in Bosque County to Waco and beyond.
