This stargaze is held at the Day Lodge; around its drive-in circle. If sky conditions (i.e., clouds and/or precipitation) are not looking good for a stargaze, a talk/presentation about astronomy will be given to stargaze attendees inside in comfort of the Day Lodge. Watch for the signs and MVAS traffic control volunteers when you enter the park.
WHEN ENTERING THE PARK:
1) PLEASE keep your vehicle’s headlights on LOW BEAM when approaching the stargaze area.
2) Vehicle parking is available in lots around the Day Lodge. One lot is located past the JBSP Playground but before the Day Lodge on the right-hand side. By taking the left fork at the Day Lodge, other lots can be found in front of and in behind the Day Lodge drive circle.
Telescopes and binoculars provided by MVAS members will be set up for the public to view the night sky.
STARGAZE RULES & ETIQUETTE:
1) The public DOES NOT need to bring their own telescopes; just questions and curious minds.
2) NO PETS will be permitted in the stargaze/viewing area for the safety of our members, their equipment, and our guests.
3) Use red light sources ONLY when walking around the stargaze area; AVOID white light sources from flashlights or smartphones. White light ruins a person’s night vision while red light does not.
Should a stargaze cancellation be required, a cancel notice will be announced on our Facebook page. If no cancellation notice appears, please assume that the event is going forward as planned.
Cost is FREE and OPEN to the public/park visitors. Donations are greatly appreciated.
