In this class you will experiment artistically with both traditional and wet cyanotype methods.
What is Cyanotype? It is a printing process using UV sensitive chemicals and sun exposure that results in a deep blue background with a white image. Cyanotype is technically a type of photography and is one of the earliest photograph technologies! This process was used to create cheap copies of design plans used by architects and engineers.
What to bring:
Watercolor paper is provided, however, you are encouraged to bring additional materials to print on such as:
-Any papers you wish to experiment on.
-White fabric made of a cotton or natural material (the prints will wash right out of synthetic materials such as polyester) Examples include t-shirts, tote bags, table runners, pillow cases, table mats, etc…
-Light wooden surfaces
-Lightly colored, flat stones
Some objects to print with will be available, however, you are encouraged to bring your own items which could include:
-Transparent objects (glassware, photo negatives)
-Pressed flowers and leaves
-Trinkets with interesting silhouettes (keys, nails, jewelry, etc...)
