After a disappointing rainout last Monday -- our second in an otherwise stellar 2025 calendar -- we'll try again next Monday on the west side of town, this week in Roberto Clemente Park, tucked into a shady corner of the Clark-Fulton neighborhood.
We always seem to have an extremely enthusiastic welcome in this part of town, and we've come to look forward to this annual stop. People in this area are extremely proud of their community and we're happy to provide opportunities for residents and families to get out with us on a tour of the west side.
We'll set up at 6 PM, hopefully (last week the imminent thunderstorms kept us from doing even that), with a ride time of 7 PM as always.
Parking in the area is a bit tricky, as the park's small lot is considerably smaller than the size of the group we bring. So prepare to park on streets around the neighborhood, particularly along Seymour Avenue leading back to Fulton. Please be respectful of our neighbors and don't block driveways or access in or out of the area.
A note on the late rain call last week: some riders were wondering why we waited so long to make a cancellation call on the JoAnn Park ride. The answer is that the storm was as much a surprise to us as it probably was to you. Our advanced outlook showed nothing sizeable even that morning, and it wasn't until late afternoon that we realized a rogue system had formed in the western part of the state and was chugging directly toward us. By the time we could even react to it, we were already getting reports of flash flooding in towns less than an hour's drive west of us. So we made the best call we could have in the situation and waited until we were certain we were going to get hit.
If you made the trek out to the ride and then had to turn around and head home, we sincerely apologize. Budget cuts to government weather services mean that we're all feeling the effects of less warning of violent and potentially dangerous weather activity. Be careful out there, since it's becoming clear that we're all we've got.
