The fourth in Artists Archives of the Western Reserve’s Art Bites: Legacy series meant to help artists and their families

About this Event

The fourth in Artists Archives of the Western Reserve’s Art Bites: Legacy series of workshops meant to help artists and their families with all aspects of the planning that needs to be done in order to preserve their artistic legacies. This workshop will be led by Karen Eterovich, the daughter of Archived Artist Anthony Eterovich, who will lead a conversation about creating a personal archive: planning and preparing art work for the archive; doing research on artwork lacking known dates; cataloguing the archive using spreadsheets, preservation paper, portfolios, sheet protectors, estate stamps and so on. Discussion will include possible ways to organize photographs, journals, texts, newspaper clippings, programs and catalogues.

We will discuss how a personal archive can help the individual curator to create a documented history of the artwork as well as enhance relationships with gallerists, curators, institutions and buyers. Sample materials will be handed out.

Karen Eterovich-Maguire Bio

Karen holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Akron and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of South Carolina. She is a member of Actors' Equity Association, Screen Actors Guild and the Dramatists Guild. She became an instant archivist after her father, Anthony Eterovich, died in April of 2011, leaving behind decades of artwork. Having grown up in the art community through her father's classes and shows, she found that the many jobs she had while living as a starving actor in New York City provided her with the background to become the support the Estate needed. Seeking advice from the Cleveland Institute of Art, the Artists Archives, ARTneo and gallerist Bill Tregoning, Karen learned that she had a lot to learn! She remains her fathers' champion; when not curating and promoting her father's art, Karen performs as Jane Austen in her own solo show.
