Botanic Gardens play a vital role in biodiversity conservation through a multifaceted approach. Many botanical gardens act as safe havens for rare and endangered plant species by cultivating them outside their natural habitats (ex-situ conservation), which includes seed banking and safeguarding collections. This offers a critical backup plan in case wild populations dwindle due to habitat loss, disease, or other threats. These gardens also often conduct research on plant propagation, conservation techniques, and the ecology of different plant communities and play a crucial role in educating the public about the importance of biodiversity and the threats to it. This can inspire visitors to become stewards of the environment and take action to protect native species. SCBG dedicates a portion of the garden to restore and interpret natural habitats that provide food and shelter for native wildlife. This creates corridors between fragmented habitats and promotes biodiversity. SCBG hosts workshops, volunteer programs, and educational events that encourage the community to get involved in conservation efforts. The presentation will explore some of the on-going work at the garden and new projects and initiatives that are helping conserve native plants
