This is our annual Samhain event. @5:00, we kick things off with pumpkin decorating, so if you have a small to medium pumpkin you’d like to carve or paint, be sure to bring it. I recommend washing it with mild soap and water if you’re planning to paint it. The paint sticks better.
@7:00, we will have a ritual that will include a dumb supper of a simple stew with rustic bread. We’ll ring a bell at the beginning and silently toast our ancestors and sup with them for twenty minutes, at which time another bell will ring to signify the end of the dumb supper.
After the ritual and dumb supper, we will enjoy a potluck of desserts and appetizers, with fellowship around the fire pit.
There will be a main ancestors altar, and everyone is encouraged to bring an item that represents your ancestor(s) you are honoring on this sacred night to place upon that altar.
Good folk are also encouraged to wear warm ritual garb and bring their beverage of choice, although there will be water and lemonade to drink. Adult beverages are okay as long as you drink responsibly.
Along with whatever you bring for the potluck, I also recommend bringing a comfortable folding chair and a warm cloak or blanket for sitting outside.
AND, if you want to bring a drum or other instrument to play while we’re sitting around the fire, please do.
Oh! This ritual may be a bit scary for small children, so be sure that any young folk you bring are mature enough to understand and participate comfortably.
If you’re camping, you are welcome to come early to set up your tent.
