Step into the past with us at WILLOW COURT - A Journey Through Time!
Join us on our all-ages history tour of the iconic Willow Court as we explore the atmospheric landmarks of the Willow Court Barracks precinct.
Our experienced guides will share over 190 years of history as we explore this fascinating Tasmanian site.
This is a 60 minute guided walking tour of the Willow Court Barracks Precinct. We will take you on a journey of the past as we explore the fascinating and complex history of Willow Court including why New Norfolk was chosen for the site and the many name changes over its 173 years of operation.
You will also learn of the rich heritage and witness colonial architect dating back to 1830’s with the oldest building still remaining today. The Barracks building was designed by John Lee Archer who was a famous colonial architect in Van Diemen’s Land.
Willow Court is Australia’s oldest continually run mental institution, still on its original site and we are privileged to share the history with you.
Our tours are held every Saturday with two time options available.
Tour 1 - 11:45am-12:45pm
Tour 2 - 1:00pm - 2:00pm
Adults: $35 (16+)
Child: $15 (5-15yrs)
Bookings are essential.
This is an outdoor walking tour therefore please dress for all weather conditions. Some access points may not be suitable for people with restricted mobility due to uneven surfaces and stairs. It is not fully wheelchair accessible. Please contact us for more information regarding access.
