We warmly invite you to join us for our next in-person meeting in Christchurch - on Wednesday, 30th July, at 1 pm to 3pm.
Nurse Wendy Dragt will be talking about Orthostatic Intolerance (OI) and its management.
Orthostatic Intolerance (OI) is an umbrella term for a group of circulatory conditions that cause symptoms when sitting/standing up and are relieved when lying down. These symptoms are characterised by a dramatic drop in blood flow to the brain, and can include substantial drops in blood pressure, tachycardia, dizziness, and fainting.
OI is a sign of Dysautonomia, a malfunction of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) which regulates heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, kidney function, temperature control and many other bodily functions. OI can range from mild, where symptoms are infrequent and easily managed, to severe, where symptoms can be dangerous, leading to falls and injuries due to fainting or loss of consciousness.
Common associated conditions are ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia, Long Covid, Orthostatic Hypotension and Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTs).
If this sounds like something you would be interested in and have the time and wellbeing on the day, we look forward to seeing you.
The presentation will also be presented online on 13th August. That session will be recorded and we expect to be able to upload this to our YouTube channel by the end of August.
