We are going to visit a fairly historical cave in Oklahoma! It's not too challenging, and kids as young as 10 yo have done this cave no problem.
If you are going PLEASE confirm with a comment as well that you ARE going.
If you are a complete beginner and have questions or would like to borrow some equipment, like helmets and lights, just leave a comment and we'll help you out.
9:00am - 🧀 🏠 - Meet at Amish Cheese House
We'll gather and park at the South end of the parking lot. We can carpool and caravan to the Spavinaw Hills State Game Refuge Headquarters from there. Please show up on time and with your gas tank filled up. It's a 45 min drive.
9:15am - 🚙 🚗 - Head out together to the Spavinaw Hills State Game Refuge Headquarters. (If you really really want to just meet us at the Headquarters at 10:00am, let me know, so I can account for that.)
10:00am - 🦌🌳 - Arrive at the Spavinaw Hills State Game Refuge Headquarters. We'll grab the key to the cave from the caretakers, and then head into park. You will want a moderately capable 4WD/AWD vehicle with reasonable clearance from this point on, as the roads are rough at points. If we need to further carpool from the Headquarters we can do that.
At this point we will drive about 15-20 min to get close to the cave, then park and walk/hike another 10-15 mins to the entrance, about 0.5 mile away.
We'll probably spend a couple hours in the cave, and then discuss options from there. If things go really really fast, we could be done by 3-4pm, but we can go longer and explore other smaller caves close by if folks are interested.
