Port Townsend Chamber Music Series features local poet, two world premieres and saxophone quartet!
The Port Townsend Chamber Music Series is performing on Saturday, October 18 at 2 pm at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer (45 Redeemer Way, Chimacum).
This free concert series features local soloists, chamber musicians and Port Townsend Symphony Orchestra members. No tickets or reservations are required. Donations are gratefully accepted at the door to benefit the symphony. There will be a short reception after the concert.
Sung-Ling Hsu, co-artistic director, expressed excitement about the upcoming concert. “We greatly appreciate the willingness of these 14 musicians and one poet, sharing their artistic talents with our community. The free nature of these programs helps ensure that everyone in our community can attend."
The concert includes world premieres of two pieces by local composer, Philip Hirschi.
Discussing the poems that inspired him to write these pieces, Hirschi stated, “One composition features Edna St. Vincent Millay's famous "Recuerdo," which is a short, punchy poem filled with memorable images. For our second composition we wanted something by a local poet that was nature-oriented. We were so glad to discover our own Kathryn Hunts' "Do You Consider Yourself a Nature Poet?" It's very dramatic, very musical. After reading it slowly several times, the musical ideas just started coming.”
