The Chilton Public Library is proud to welcome back Mariachi San José, an ensemble of talented college students from San José State University, on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 12 PM. Under the direction of Dr. José R. Torres-Ramos, assistant professor of ethnomusicology, this university-level mariachi group showcases the rich heritage of música ranchera, a traditional Mexican music genre known for its heartfelt storytelling and powerful instrumentation.
This performance will offer a more casual and intimate experience, without the traditional mariachi attire, allowing the focus to remain on the music and its cultural roots. Attendees will enjoy a dynamic blend of music and conversation as the ensemble shares insights into their repertoire and the traditions of the music they play.
This free program is open to all members of the community and offers a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and learn more about the vibrant legacy of mariachi. Don’t miss this special afternoon of culture, connection, and sound!

La Biblioteca Pública de Chilton se enorgullece en dar la bienvenida nuevamente a Mariachi San José, un conjunto de talentosos estudiantes universitarios de San José State University, el sábado 4 de octubre de 2025 a las 12:00 PM. Bajo la dirección del Dr. José R. Torres-Ramos, profesor asistente de etnomusicología, este grupo de nivel universitario celebra el rico patrimonio de la música ranchera, un género tradicional mexicano conocido por su emotiva narrativa y su poderosa instrumentación.
Esta presentación será una experiencia más casual e íntima, sin los trajes tradicionales del mariachi, lo que permitirá que la atención se enfoque en la música y sus raíces culturales.
