If you are a theatre fan, you know that London is a wonderful place to experience live theatre and learn from the tradition there. Alton Humphreys, son of Amanda Bach, has the opportunity to spend a semester learning abroad in London this upcoming semester. Alton, a 2023 graduate of IVC High School majoring in Theatre Performance Studies at Millikin University, will be traveling to London in August to begin a semester abroad. Alton has been involved in performances at Peoria Players Theatre, Corn Stock Theatre, Chillicothe Players, and IVC High School Theatre. He also performed as a member of the IVC choir and vocal jazz and was a member of the marching, concert, and jazz bands. While at Millikin, Alton has been part of several shows, both on and off stage, and has found a love of scenic design and props building. He also participates in the Collegiate and True Blue choir, jazz band, and the a Capella vocal group, Dissonance.
In London, Alton will be continuing his studies in theatre and learning from artists in residence at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, along with attending shows on the West End. He is excited to learn more about the technical aspects of theatre and is looking forward to learning all he can this upcoming semester.
In order to help Alton with all the additional costs of this semester abroad, friends and family have organized a fundraiser to help him on his way. The event will feature a delicious dinner option from Odie’s, live entertainment from Alton and family and friends, silent auction, raffle baskets, a wine pull, and a few other surprises.
The event will be held at Odie’s in downtown Chillicothe on Saturday, August 9, from 4-7pm. There will be a Venmo link to donate to Alton’s study abroad fund. The public is welcome!!! Please come and hear a young, talented Chillicothe native, grab a good meal, and help a young person have the semester of a lifetime.
